Whole30 BBQ Sauce

BBQ sauce is one of those sauces that I have tried a ton of while on whole30 and none were even remotely good or tasted normal. So, that’s when I went on an adventure to make my own!

Whole experimenting to make my own BBQ sauce I knew that if I had a good ketchup recipe I could then use that as a base to work with for BBQ sauce and that is how my whole30 ketchup came to be which we absolutely love!

After brainstorming and playing around with so many different BBQ recipes I knew I need something with a little smoky flavor, a hint of sweetness, tomato based but not bland tomato based. SOMETHING WITH DEPTH! something my family would love, something I could use on not just ribs, but burgers and chicken and fish.

So one day at Aldi I knew I had found it! This antioxidant power blend of pomegranate, tart cherry, red grape, purple carrot, cranberry and blueberries and bonus it’s whole30 friendly! Then I stumbled upon a black cherry juice and knew that was exactly what I needed for the depth. Now I just needed a smoky flavor so we used chipotle chili pepper powder and we all fell deeply and madly in love!

Ingredients:

  • Full recipe of ketchup (which can be found by clicking HERE)
  • 2 tsp of the antioxidant blend
  • 2 tsp of black cherry juice
  • 1/8 tsp chipotle chili pepper powder
  • Method:
Blend everything with an immersion blender.
If you want your sauce to have more smoky flavor add more chipotle chili pepper powder
If you would like your sauce to have more of a vinegar taste add apple cider vinegar
If you would like your sauce to be sweeter add more antioxidant blend

This is so easy and so worth it!!

“Lauren do I really need to buy both juices?? Yes!!”

Trust me, you’ll want both of these to give that BBQ sauce the tang and sweetness you are looking for.

Bonus- if you have kids they will love these juices and these juices are great to marinade chicken with or play around in other recipes that need a hint of sweetness.

Our Aldi carries these but that doesn’t mean all Aldi’s will have them. If yours does not carry them I’d recommend ordering online!

So far we’ve made and devoured BBQ RIBS (recipe coming soon for your instant pot) and we’ve also put this on our burgers and it was amazing!
